THE MET Office has issued a ’yellow’ weather warning with heavy rain expected in Surrey and Hampshire on Thursday evening.

Spells of heavy rain are expected to arrive in the area between 3pm and 11.45pm today (January 16), with "flooding of a few homes and businesses likely".

Spray and flooding on roads will also probably make journey times longer, and bus and train services will likely be affected.

The Met Office warning adds: "Outbreaks of rain will become heavy and persistent at times this afternoon and evening before clearing from the west by midnight.

"Rainfall totals will reach 20 to 30 mm in places with as much as 40 mm in a few spots."
