A record attendance of 324 adults – along with more than 100 under-16s – went through the gates of Shalden Park House on Father’s Day for the village’s first fete since 2019.

The adult visitors enjoyed the beautiful grounds, the barbecue, the cream teas, the Pimm’s and beer stalls, and the bottle, cake, book and plant stalls, as well as the classic car display.

They also hoped their dog would win one of the five dog show competitions.

Children smashed plates and jumped around on the bouncy castle, before knocking over skittles, a coconut or a teddy bear – of which more than 100 were won.

Committee member Ian Champness said: “The committee will announce the local charities who will share the funds once all the auction and promised money has been received, and hopes this total will be close to £4,000.”
