EAST Hampshire's entertainment scene has been boosted by a new arts centre on the modern campus at Alton College.

Wessex Arts opened its doors to the public for the first time for a sellout concert featuring US jazz saxophonist Jim Snidero last month.

The venue has a fresh, modern feel with a state-of-the-art theatre, two dance studios and a vibrant café.

The centre offers an eclectic programme of world-class performers and quality events throughout the year, including the London Mozart Players, MOBO award winner Soweto Kinch, and an evening of contemporary dance.

Alton College principal Jane Machell said the centre was set up to engage audiences, adding: "The mission of the centre is to involve the community in and around Alton with great entertainment and offer them the chance to meet and interact with world-class performers.
