THE Alresford Art Society has recruited two new members to its team.

James Bellingham responded to the Society’s appeal for a new treasurer.

He spent four years working for B&Q in supplier accounts and 11 years with Hampshire County Council working within the finance, client affairs and IT departments before starting his own company, JB Viper Enterprises, where he handles private and business accounts and event management.

Married with three children, James lives in Alresford.

He said: “My uncle is an artist and I really enjoy drawing, which is why I just had to be involved with the art society and to be a part of such an important organisation in the town. Amazing people and such brilliant artists.”

“Seeing people enjoy art is a fantastic reward for me,” he added.

Miranda Bryan has stepped up to the committee and will take over as secretary at the annual meeting. Married with a daughter and young grandson, she has worked in art and education throughout her career.

After 13 years as a primary school teacher, she left teaching to set up her own art business, The Happy Art Company, which holds art workshops for schools, community art events, and art parties for children. She is passionate about the importance of art for all ages.

She said: “Aside from learning art skills and being a lot of fun, art education provides opportunities to develop transferable skills and disciplines that are an intrinsic part of academic success and essential skills for life. I love my job as it enables me to work alongside so many interesting people and encourage young artists!”

Alresford Art Society chairman Sue Gentry said of the new appointments: “We are delighted to welcome James and Miranda on board. They are a breath of fresh air and we will enjoy taking the organisation forward with them on the team.”
