NOMINATIONS are being accepted for an award scheme that brought national recognition to a Meon Valley shop.

The hunt is on as the Countryside Alliance has begun a search to find the 2024 winners of the Rural Oscars.

West Meon Village Shop reached the national final in the village shop/post office award and the Hinton Arms making the regionals in the Rural Pub section in 2023.

Stansted Farm Shop and Compton Village Stores also reached the same stage in last year’s competition.

Meon Valley MP Flick Drummond hopes her patch can go one better this time around with nominations being accepted until November 12.

She said: “I am a big fan of the wonderful rural businesses we have in the Meon Valley and I hope local people nominate as many as possible so they have a chance to be honoured in these prestigious awards.

“I would love for a winner to come from this part of Hampshire and there are so many brilliant businesses to choose from. There’s no doubt those who have won in the past received a boost to their business.”

Awards include Local Food, Village Shop/Post Office, Rural Enterprise, Butcher and Rural Pub, for more details visit www.countryside-alliance.org
