A SERVICE to commemorate the 83rd anniversary of a turning point in the Second World War took place in a Petersfield church at the weekend.

The service officiated by Revds Will Hughes and Alison Waterhouse was attended by town mayor, Councillor JC Crissey and the mayor’s cadet.
Members of the 1927 Air Training Cadet Corps, the Royal British Legion and a large congregation were also in attendance.
The airborne battle in 1940 proved the Germans could be stopped and most likely prevented the Nazis from invading the UK.
