A FOUR Marks photographer has used her skill to pay her own tribute to all those who have suffered as a result of war.
Mary Coe has taken a picture of the village war memorial, which stands on the green at the junction of Lymington Bottom with Winchester Road, and it will be there that residents will gather on Sunday for the annual Service of Remembrance.
She said: “With autumn taking hold it is time again to remember all those who have suffered through war. As a local photographer living in Four Marks, what better tribute could I give than to create this poignant image of the village’s war memorial.”
The picture features her husband, a veteran soldier who, at the age of 16, joined the Corps of Royal Engineers and served in a 38-year career that saw him take part in many conflicts throughout the world.
The picture is a composition piece submitted by Mary in an assessment for an advanced diploma in photography that she took after retiring from a career in the NHS.
She explained: “I had attended the dedication of the war memorial two years ago and been moved by the strikingly simple, modern design set in its peaceful surroundings.
“The addition of a veteran soldier gave the composition a human interest and I had my very own model in my husband.”
Mary has now passed her diploma and set up her own small business as a photographer with a passion for photographing dogs and children.
* Four Marks will hold its Service of Remembrance at 10.45am on Sunday at the village war memorial.
