POLICE are investigating two burglaries on London Road in Holybourne, near Alton, which resulted in the theft of £1,000 in cash.

The twin raids, on March 4, are being linked by the police.

One of break-ins, at Eggar’s School, is thought to have taken place between 1.30am and 4am when intruders entered the school grounds and used a bollard to smash a frosted, double-glazed window to the kitchen office. They entered the building and made off with around £1,000 in cash from a safe.

Patrick Sullivan, headteacher of the Holybourne school, said: “We can confirm that there was a break in at the school in the early hours of Friday morning and cash was stolen from the kitchen safe. The school has passed CCTV images to the police to assist them in their investigation.”

On the same night, possibly between 2am and 3.30am, raiders broke into Holybourne Theatre by forcing the main doors but left empty-handed.

Police are seeking witnesses to both incidents and are asking in particular for information about a man seen wearing a black and white jacket and blue jeans who was seen acting suspiciously in the area.
