Interesting that an independent panel has recommended an increase of 34.6 per cent in the basic allowances for the councillors of East Hampshire District Council.

I am sure that many of these people are hard working and committed and maybe even deserving, so such a catch up (after seven years) might be justified.

Could not the same be said about the junior doctors? Their claim for 35 per cent suddenly does not look so out of line, as claimed by the Conservative government.
