Here are the candidates standing for election to East Hampshire District Council on May 4.
Borough and district councils provide a range of public services to residents, including housing, planning and development control, waste management, environmental health, leisure and culture, licensing, parking, council tax and benefits administration, running elections, collecting business rates and community safety.
East Hampshire District Council is made up of 43 councillors elected every four years to oversee the provision of these services.
The overriding duty of councillors is to the whole community, but they have a special duty to their constituents, including those who did not vote for them.
And ultimately, councillors are democratically accountable to the residents of their ward which is why it is so important to use your vote on May 4.
All councillors meet together for full council meetings six times a year. These are held in public, and are used to decide the council’s overall policies and set the budget each year.
The Herald and Post has invited every borough candidate standing for election in its Farnham and Haslemere circulation areas to submit 100 word profiles for the Thursday, April 27 edition of the paper.
