ALTON can look forward to a sports boost after the town secured £50,000 of National Lottery investment from Sport England's Protecting Playing Fields fund.

The plan is to bring back pitches to the Diggers site on Anstey Park, to meet the needs of clubs.

Community sports officer Emily Sanderson said the money will enable the town council to meet the demand for more junior football pitches, particularly with the introduction of the new nine-a-side formation from the FA, and alleviate the issue of capacity at Jubilee Playing Fields.
