CHILDREN'S literature came alive as pupils in Rake marked world book day by dressing up as their favourite characters.

But there was an over-riding theme at Rake Primary School as all the characters from the classic fairytale Cinderella.

As well as dressing up, the children were keen to enter an extreme reading competition – with the youngsters challenged to have their pictures taken while leafing through their favourite stories in unusual circumstances.

Entries included reading while skiing, being upside down, sitting in a tree, and relaxing in a hot tub.

The winning entry was of six-year-old Alice Arnold who was pictured reading to a cow, for which she won a £10 book token.

The children, who each recieved a £1 book token for taking part in world book day, are pictured in costume.
