THE Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education has confirmed the quality and standards of provision at the University of Winchester following its review in February 2016.
Agency reviewers visited the university in February and judged that its academic standards, the quality of its student learning opportunities and the quality of information about its learning opportunities all meet UK expectations. They judged that the enhancement of its student learning opportunities is commended.
The review identifies a number of examples of good practice, including the extensive range of volunteering opportunities available to students which enhance employability skills and career prospects, the widespread opportunities for students to engage in decision making through the Student Academic Council, the strength of partnerships between staff and students within the Student Fellows Scheme, and its effective contribution to enhancing the wider student experience.
The review made some recommendations for improvements, suggesting that the university should “establish robust processes to ensure comparability of standards across similarly titled awards”, “ensure explicit reference to including external scrutiny in processes for approval of changes to award titles”, and “ensure transparency of entry criteria to programmes that entail competence in a language other than the main language of instruction”.
Professor Joy Carter, vice-chancellor of the University of Winchester, said: “This endorsement of the quality of our provision following a rigorous review is wonderful news and testament to the passion and dedication of our staff and students.
“We are deeply passionate about partnering with our students to provide a high quality and uniquely personalised experience. Being commended for our achievements in enhancing our students’ learning opportunities is especially rewarding.”
The review means that the university can now display the Quality Assurance Agency’s Quality Mark.
