YOUNGSTERS in East Hampshire will have the chance to make their very own Ewoks, Yodas, BB8s and R2-D2s when the Rural Areas Play Project (RAPP) comes to a galaxy not so far away in February half-term.
The next school holiday is fast approaching and the RAPP and Get Activ8d schemes are back to fill children’s days with fun activities throughout the week.
Half-term week runs from February 12-16 and the RAPP vans will be visiting towns and villages across East Hampshire, including Medstead, Liss, Whitehill and Bordon, Horndean, and Petersfield.
RAPP was set up 12 years ago by East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) to give children aged four to 11 the opportunity to get involved in fun activities, games, adventures, workshops and to meet new friends in the school holidays.
In February, youngsters will have the opportunity to create some themed arts and crafts in sessions throughout the week, including Star Wars, Winter Olympics, puppets, Valentine’s Day, creepy crawlies, and Chinese New Year.
There will also be a fun-filled, interactive magic show from Magic Charlie at Whitehill village hall on the Wednesday (February 13) and the chance to meet some real-life creepy crawlies when Zoo Lab brings them to Jubilee Hall in Horndean on the Thursday (February 14).
Get Activ8d, which provides sporting activities to children aged seven to 14, is also back in February half-term in Alton, Whitehill and Bordon, and Petersfield.
The week will include street dance at Alton College, cheerleading, and hula hooping at The Petersfield School, tennis at Kingsley Tennis Centre, trampolining at Mill Chase Leisure Centre in Bordon, and climbing at Alton Sports Centre.
Julie Butler, EHDC’s portfolio holder for customer relations, said: “Parents, grandparents and anyone looking after children through the school holidays can find it hard to find stuff to do, especially in the more rural areas of the district.
“The aim of both RAPP and Get Activ8d is to help the parents by bringing the fun out to the children – offering a wide range of fun activities and sports in a wide range of areas.”
