Children at Ropley CE Primary School took part in a competition to design a flag for Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties’ Alresford Down estate.

The developer challenged them to design a “vibrant and imaginative” flag and they responded with a range of colourful entries.

Year 6 pupil Oliver Murrell won the contest and received a £50 Amazon voucher. His design is now flying high at Alresford Down.

The school received a £250 donation as a thank you for taking part. This will be put towards its new reading scheme.

Headteacher Daniel Mills said: “The competition was a great success. The children were very enthusiastic and focused while creating their flag designs.

“They also asked lots of questions about the new Taylor Wimpey development, as the project is particularly personal to our students from the Alresford area.

“Thank you so much to Taylor Wimpey for providing our children with the opportunity of taking part in the competition. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves.”

Roz Wells, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties, said: “We were thrilled to invite pupils at Ropley CE Primary School to take part in our flag design competition.

“Picking a winning design was a tough challenge with so much artistic talent being shown. We’re also pleased to hear that the pupils had fun creating their designs and have expressed an interest in Alresford Down.

“Oliver’s colourful flag looks fabulous at the development, and makes for an eye-catching welcome for people visiting our development.”
