A FARNHAM postman is taking on the London Marathon in support of a charity close to his heart.
Kevin Laurie is set to take on the 26.2-mile run on April 28, and hopes to raise £2,000 for the British Heart Foundation as his family has a “massive history” of heart disease.
His granddad had several heart attacks, his uncle died from a heart attack aged 47 and his father also passed away from a heart attack aged 51.
“It’s the only charity I wanted to run for because of my family history,” Kevin told the Herald.
“That’s why I was so desperate to run for the charity – it means a lot.”
He started running around two years ago, but since finding out he had a place in the marathon has increased his training to at least three to four times a week.
Kevin said: “I’m hoping to finish in around four hours but I’m not too worried – I’m more worried about finishing. That’s my main goal.
“It’s something I’ve always said I’d do from a young age but never truly believed I would. Then in the past couple of years I really wanted to use the momentum of running to do the marathon.
“The London Marathon is the only one I’ve wanted to do. I’ve watched it since I was a young kid.
“I can’t wait to cross the line, it’ll be such a buzz!”
