AN airspace change proposal by TAG Farnborough Airport has sparked fear among aviators that it could have impact on flight safety.
TAG Farnborough Airport is consulting on a proposal, for submission to the Civil Aviation Authority, to introduce a new operating environment, with elements of 'controlled' airspace around the airport which, it claims, will improve efficiency and enhance safety for airport users.
But, according to Lasham Gliding Society, the proposal would impact on users of Class G airspace (uncontrolled airspace) in the wider area, compromising safety and increasing noise.
It would, they believe, force large numbers of light and general aviation aircraft, including gliders, into much smaller areas of existing 'free' airspace, creating dangerously congested 'choke points', which would increase the risk of collision.
