An appeal for help from our readers comes this week from Jo Ayres: “Being an avid Herald reader and always enjoying your photos and the mysteries they present, I am emailing about a school milestone at St Mary’s Bentworth CE Primary School.

“Although St Mary’s was built in 1848 and has got a very long history, it is 150 years of the Trust Deed creating this school as a church school this August. Therefore, when we return from the summer holidays, we are celebrating this milestone in many ways.

“I wondered if you may plead with your readers to hunt out any photos or memorabilia for the occasion. We are holding a tour for all the community on Wednesday, September 7 at 9.30am and would welcome everyone.

“We are trying to put together a visual history of the school so our pupils over time can see how our community has developed and cherish the history our school holds.”

A quick search in the archive revealed just one photograph connected with the school and that was this group of pupils taken in 1911. I wonder if readers can identify any of those present?

I hope you can help Mrs Ayres in her quest please email her at [email protected] or via the school’s website www.bentworth.hants.sch.uk
