STAFF?and pupils at Andrews’ Endowed Primary School at Holybourne are in high spirits after achieving foundation level status of the British Council’s prestigious International School Award.

Stephen Hull, senior project manager at the British Council, said: “Andrews’ Endowed Primary School’s international work has earned the school well-deserved recognition in the form of the Foundation Certificate.

“The school’s dedication to internationalism is enriching education for its pupils by bringing an essential global dimension to learning, and encouraging the development of skills children need to be global citizens of the future.”

Fostering an international dimension in the curriculum is at the heart of the British Council’s work with schools, so that young people gain the cultural understanding and skills they need for life work in today’s world. The school’s international work includes projects such as Africa studies (Kenya, Ethiopia and Eritrea), diwali, climate zones, Ancient Greeks, and the cost of war.

In addition, the school has created and maintained a vibrant link with its partner school in France which has enhanced the pupils’ vision and understanding of communities other than their own.

In expressing her delight at the achievement, headteacher Maria Lloyd said: “The school is grateful to French teacher Madame Mylward for leading us through the award application process, and for her dedication to our international curriculum. Bravo!”
