PUPILS and staff at Alton Infant School celebrated the grand opening this week of a fully-equipped, bespoke children’s kitchen.

Parents Barbara Severs and Heather Novak have completed the training, as part of the Tesco-sponsored Let’s Get Cooking! for schools initiative, and are excited about teaching weekly cooking lessons in small groups of four ‘chefs’ from reception year and year two.

According to headteacher Jayne Broach, it is expected that the children will also harvest and use the fresh fruit and vegetables grown in their school allotments.

Ms Broach has expressed grateful thanks to Tesco, and to Alton Sainsbury’s which donated some of the equipment and whose charity and community co-ordinator, Debby Bridger, was on hand to cut the ribbon to open the new kitchen facility at the Normandy Street school.
