Farnham’s secret therapy garden space2grow (www.space2grow.space) is “thrilled and proud” to receive a tree from The Queen’s Green Canopy ‘Tree of Trees’, the spectacular steel and sapling sculpture created outside Buckingham Palace as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The Farnham community wellbeing garden is one of only around 300 organisations from across the UK announced as recipients of the special trees, gifted in The Queen’s name.

Presented by HM Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey, Michael More-Molyneux, the hazel tree was planted today (Friday at the heart of the space2grow garden, surrounded by volunteers, local school children and supporters.

The space2grow tree becomes part of the living legacy in honour of Her Majesty, joining over a million trees already planted across the UK as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy.

The Lord-Lieutenants of each county have been championing the initiative locally and selected the recipients of the special Jubilee trees.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey, Michael More Molyneux said: “I first had the pleasure of visiting space2grow in 2021 for the opening of their wildlife pond.

“The wild garden is a very special place and is an example of how the natural environment can help people to improve their health and wellbeing.

“I am delighted to present this tree to space2grow in recognition of the vital role they play in our community.”

The tree was gifted in its original commemorative aluminium pot that formed part of the sculpture, embossed with Her Majesty’s cypher.

Councillor Alan Earwaker, mayor of Farnham, added: “Space2grow provides a safe and supportive environment to so many people right here in the centre of Farnham. The tranquil space offers hope and is really quite magical.

“I am delighted that space2grow’s contribution to the community has been recognised with this very special tree which will be a lasting legacy of HM The Queen’s service to her country and her people.”

Space2grow is located on an acre of wild garden in the heart of Farnham, located near St Andrew’s Church.

It aims to improve the wellbeing of a variety of people living in the local area by offering them the opportunity to connect with others in the great outdoors, through gardening, group activities and conversation.

Nicola Chinn, founding trustee of space2grow, said: “We are thrilled and proud to be chosen to receive a tree for our contribution to the Farnham community.

“This tree is a thank you to all the volunteers and supporters who work so hard to make our little acre of wild garden such a special place and it’s wonderful to see so many of them here today.

“The hazel perfectly suits the space and will be an inspiration to us all to keep planting trees and enjoy the benefits of time spent in nature.”

Guests at the tree planting were welcomed with tea and cakes and invited to visit a special exhibition of tree-themed artwork created in the garden by FADEG (Farnham Art and Design Education Group).
