THE district council wants to build a new sports centre next to the existing facility.

The proposals, agreed by East Hampshire District Council's Cabinet on December 9, involve constructing an improved, modern centre on the current site in Chawton Park Road, to meet the current and future needs of Alton.

The existing centre will remain open until the new centre is in place.
