Three members of staff at Eggar’s School in Holybourne took part in a sky dive to raise more than £2,000 for the Southampton Hospitals Charity on May 11.

Before taking the plunge from 10,000 feet, the Eggar’s school house system team of Rebecca Chads, Lucy Tomkinson and Martha Bilsland described it as their “biggest, scariest and highest challenge yet” and added that they were “facing our fear of flying and heights”.

As well as sponsorship, they raised the money through a bake sale, a lucky dip and a sponge the teacher event in which all the teachers volunteered to get soaked for a good cause.

After landing safely, the trio said: “The sky dive drastically took us out of our comfort zone and we are thrilled to have raised so much money for a local charity that helps so many in our community. We are so proud of all the support we had and are looking forward to showing the students our videos in the Summer House Assembly.”

The three women said that Eggar's was “committed to raising money for local organisations”, hence the decision to choose the Southampton Hospitals Charity.

They explained: “It is a charity and service that has no doubt supported many of our families at times. We had the chance to raise funds to support buying life-saving equipment, creating places where patients can socialise, and enhancing care provided by all staff, who are committed to providing world-class care, supporting you and your loved ones every step of the way. Your kindness will directly impact the lives of patients who desperately need it.”

The Southampton Hospitals Charity works in partnership with University Hospital Southampton to fund projects beyond what NHS budgets can cover, improving care, experiences and outcomes for patients.
