People who love being photographed can earn free entry to Gilbert White’s House and Gardens in Selborne.

The museum is planning to take a new set of promotional pictures on November 1 and anyone happy to appear in front of a camera will get in for nothing.

Communications officer Sophia Perham said: “Whether visitors are looking for an action-packed, budget-friendly family day out, are nature lovers or history enthusiasts, this event offers the perfect opportunity for people to come together and explore the grounds that Gilbert White once called home, while smiling for the camera!”

Gilbert White’s House and Gardens tells the story of three great explorers of the natural world in its unique galleries. These are pioneering 18th-century naturalist Gilbert White, Captain Lawrence Oates of the final Scott Antarctic expedition of 1911-12, and the Victorian explorer of Central America and Africa, Frank Oates.

People of all ages can enjoy exploring more than 25 acres of beautiful grounds, including the atmospheric 18th-century gardens and a vibrant wildflower meadow.

Families can participate in an adventurous Pumpkin Trail, searching for a variety of pumpkins and gourds hidden throughout the grounds. After exploring the gardens they can visit the café for seasonal soup and creamy hot chocolate covered in marshmallows.

Inside the house they can discover The Oates Collections and learn about Lawrence Oates’ Antarctic expedition, or delve into the life and legacy of Gilbert White.

A spokesperson said: “With the autumn leaves at their most colourful, and the crisp air adding a seasonal charm, it’s the perfect time to experience this cherished destination.”

The ground floor, café, gift shop, toilets and garden are wheelchair accessible. Admission will be on the door at reception and the museum will be open from 10.30am to 4pm. For more information call 01420 511275 or visit www.gilbertwhiteshouse.org.uk
