A lower speed limit is one of several new measures to improve safety at the Golden Pot crossroads in Shalden being considered by Hampshire County Council.
Earlier this year the council said it had upgraded vehicle-activated signs, resurfaced the carriageway and introduced better road markings.
Now a council spokesperson has added: “In addition to these measures, our highways team is currently investigating whether a reduction in the speed limit to 40mph through the crossroads is feasible. Introducing a new speed limit involves a legal process and public consultation.
“Further improvements are also being explored, including planned signage upgrades, and we are working with Ordnance Survey to update sat nav systems - making the need to give way on side roads clearer to drivers.”
A Change.org petition to improve the junction of the B3349 New Odiham Road, Froyle Road and The Avenue - started by Chris Eason - has now reached 2,306 signatures.
Highlighting “debris from previous accidents littering the road”, Chris called for changes at the junction, suggesting a reduced speed limit, speed cameras or a roundabout.
Speaking to the Herald, Chris said: “I haven't heard from anyone official as of yet, but I have had an interview with a TV channel, That's TV Hampshire.
“I am very happy with the response so far with the petition. It shows a lot of people feel the same way about the junction.”
The council spokesperson invited Chris to present the petition to the authority, adding: “All petitions submitted to the county council will receive a full response.”
Crossroads campaigner and Alton Rural division Hampshire county councillor Mark Kemp-Gee said: “If the guys behind the petition want to get in touch with me, I will help them present the petition formally in front of full council at an upcoming full council meeting in Winchester.”
