THEATREGOERS will have the chance this month to see one of Alan Ayckbourn’s best-loved plays, courtesy of the Alton College Theatre Company.
The student cast is putting the finishing touches to its production of the classic comedy Bedroom Farce, which will be staged at the Wessex Theatre at Alton College from December 13-15. The fun starts at 7.30pm each night.
Bedroom Farce takes place over the course of one night in three bedrooms, which are cleverly staged within this production. Four married couples struggle with confusion and each other as things go steadily and hilariously out of control.
For starters, Trevor (Ben Anderson) and Susannah (Holly Cove) ruin a house-warming party being given by Malcolm (Ben Hannond) and Kate (Issy Terry). Nick (Joe Cosgrove) suspects that his wife, Jan (Rosie Wallace), has something going with Trevor.
They all bounce about among the bedrooms, crashing into the middle-age domesticity of Delia (Honor Ramsdale) and Ernest (Chris Atkinson), Trevor’s parents, whose big treat, following a disastrous wedding anniversary, is to share a tin of sardines before going to sleep, even though it does leave a fishy smell on the sheets!
Director Kevin Davey said of the production: “Bedroom Farce is a terrific play for Christmas. Confusion and mayhem create plenty of laughs. It’s a seasonal treat!”
Tickets, priced £5.50 with £4 concessions, are available via Alton College.
