A STEAKHOUSE has kept key workers filled this lockdown, offering various treats for collection – completely free.
Harper’s Steakhouse, located opposite Haslemere train station, has run three events for key workers, the first giving out Sunday roasts – with 120 handed out to the community.
The team has provided meals to various key workers in the community, including a drop-off to volunteers at the St Christopher’s Church vaccination centre, which re-opened last Thursday after it was temporarily closed.
Assistant manager at Harper’s, Megan Ford-Vardy, said: “The Haslemere community is very close to our hearts here at Harper’s and we thought if we are not open, why not give something back to our NHS/blue light and key workers?
“Our second one was giving away our mac’n’cheese dish served with pulled pork – 120 of these were given away to the NHS, blue light and key workers.
“Our most recent event was our coffee and bacon sandwiches for key workers – also not forgetting the posties!
“We gave away around 80 bacon sandwiches, followed by taking another 40 of them to our vaccination centre in Haslemere at St Christopher’s Church.”
The restaurant has been closed because of the pandemic since Boxing Day, with Meg recognising that “running these events has definitely boosted morale for our employees and our community”.
She said: “All the staff at Harper’s have enjoyed helping out the key workers in our community – we love helping out and being involved in the community to put some smiles on people’s faces.
“Our reception from key workers has been amazing as shown from the amount of food we have been able to give away to our community.
“The interest towards our events have grown throughout each one we have held.”
Meg said the team were “very excited to be re-opening soon”, with the promise to be “coming back even better than before”.
In the meantime, the team has confirmed their next event will be a burger night on Thursday, March 11.
Meg said: “We will be giving away our delicious Signature Burger, served with fries.
“Not to forget our takeaway menu for Mother’s Day, selling our roasts to all customers for takeaway with the choice of different meats or vegetarian.”
