MORE than 90 primary school-aged children have converged on The Butts church summer club.

Held over four days at The Butts School, on Bolle Road, the message learned throughout the week was: ‘Choose today whom you will follow... as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord. Joshua, the great leader of the Israelites declared this.’

The theme for this year’s club was X Marks the Spot, which offered a mixed programme of activities each morning, including team games, a puppet show story, crafts, and an adventure with Captain Sprackles. The captain and his crew sailed off and helped the children to understand the Bible stories through their antics.

Event organiser Stephen Warwick said: “The ‘X’ symbolised different things each day. The day one X was a kiss, representing God’s love for us all, the parable of the lost sheep illustrating the point. Day two’s X was for when we get things wrong, we all fall short of God’s standard and, like Zaccheus in the story, we need to ask for forgiveness. Day three’s X was the cross that Jesus died on, by going through death and rising again, Jesus paid for the things that we do wrong. Day four’s X was a crossroads, a point at which we need to decide which way to go, this is where the Bible verse from Joshua comes in.”

He added: “The club was a lot of fun, the weather allowed us to play the team games outside during the week and was ideal for the family fun day on Sunday.”

Mr Warwick thanked all those who came along to The Butts church, helpers and leaders, and to The Butts School for hosting the club.
