PUPILS at Chawton Primary School have been learning the importance of ‘giving rather than receiving’ in the run-up to Christmas by operating a reverse advent calendar in aid of Alton Foodbank.

Having enjoyed a special assembly, attended by a Foodbank representative, the children decided that rather than the conventional calender they would collect Christmas gifts and essential items to benefit those less fortunate than themselves over the festive period.

According to Year 6 pupils, Freja Wakefield and Tori Watter, they were assisted in their efforts by members of the village community.
