EAST Hampshire District Council has paid tribute to a former leader and chairman.

Peter Rodgers, leader of the council from 1991 to 1996, died on December 15.

The prominent councillor and leader of the Liberal Democrats was also chairman of the council from 2001-02 and represented Clanfield for 25 years.

District council leader Richard Millard said: “Peter was an excellent and devoted councillor who worked tirelessly for the benefit of East Hampshire.

“He was committed and passionate to his politics and never forgot how the decisions made in the council chamber affected the lives of the people he represented.

“I would like to offer condolences to Peter’s family on behalf of everyone at East Hampshire District Council.”
