ALRESFORD Horticultural Show manager Ann Winfield is pictured presenting this year’s winning Twiddle Muff to Iona Jewitt (left), activities co-ordinator on Freshfield Ward at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester.

Twiddle Muffs have been found to be helpful in the treatment of patients with dementia.

They provide simple stimulation for restless hands and promote increased brain stimulation.

This Twiddle Muff, made by Sue Sonksen, won class 139 in the craft section of the Alresford and District Horticultural Society Show, part of the Alresford Agricultural Show, on September 3 at Titchbourne Park.

It was one of many donated by the entrants of the class for use by hospital patients.

Mrs Winfield said: “It is hoped to include the Twiddle Muff class again in next year’s show on September 2, 2017.”
