Alton mayor Atul Patel will lead the annual Act of Remembrance on Sunday at the traditional ceremony and service around The Cairn war memorial outside the Assembly Rooms on Crown Hill.
Organised by the Alton branch of the Royal British Legion, and supported by Alton Town Council, the proceedings start with a procession from the Market Square at 10.30am led by Parade Marshal David Budgen.
Those falling in behind the Royal British Legion standard will include soldiers from Four Close Support Battalion of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) from Bordon Garrison, as well as the local uniformed youth organisations. Music will be by the Salvation Army Band.
They will march down Market Street and up the High Street to The Cairn where they will join other members of the community, gathered to pay their respects to those who have given their lives in the service of their country.
There will be a two-minute silence at 11am.
After the service the parade will march back to the Market Square to be dismissed.
Motorists are reminded that both the High Street, from its junction with Church Street, and Market Street will be closed from 10.30am until 11.45am to facilitate the ceremony. All traffic heading in a southerly direction through the town will need to seek an alternative route.
In addition, the Market Square will be closed. Car owners are not to leave their vehicles in the Square overnight.
East Hampshire District Council has waived car parking charges for the event.
* There will be a two-minute silence before The Cairn on Tuesday led by Alton Town Council.
* The village of Holybourne will be holding its third Remembrance Ceremony on Saturday starting 10.45am in front of the WWI Roll of Honour on London Road, opposite the junction with Howards Lane.
The road will be closed for the duration of the ceremony.
