The second free annual Vehicle Show and Family Fun Day for The Abbey School in Farnham comes to Anstey Park in Alton on July 13 from 11am until 4pm.

The Abbey School, in Menin Way, Farnham, is a specialised secondary school for pupils with additional needs aged 11 to 16.

Organiser Nicky Banham said: “This is very close to my heart as this is where my son goes to school. Last year was very successful, with about 80 cars, 25 craft stalls and around 2,500 attendees.

“The event raised a little over £6,500, which has been used by the school to purchase reader pens to help dyslexic pupils, iPads with styli for the art department, new musical instruments, a lighting rig for performing arts, equipment for the student-led café and play equipment for the multi-use games area.

“This year we have grown and currently have a great selection of 40 craft stalls, and new for this year we have Sporting Bears Dream Rides, where members of the public can pay for a ride out in a dream car.”

There will be live music from Alton Rock Choir and The Alabama Stills, archery and re-enactment from Wessex Kites, children’s rides, the classic vehicles, and police vehicles from South Coast Cop Cars. The sponsors are Bourne Estate Agents, C&S Coachworks, Vintage Motors UK and Legacy Direct.

The Abbey School’s headteacher David Jackson said: “Surrey County Council has invested heavily in expanding our school, but we need more books, equipment and so on to serve this increased capacity.

“The school also takes every opportunity for the students to engage in off-site sporting, life skills and other inclusion opportunities in the community.

“Our ageing school vehicles, including minibuses and people carriers, are in constant need of maintenance, and ultimately replacement, which is a particular focus for our fundraising activities.”
