I PAID a visit to the Jam Night at The Plough, Farnham last week - it’s on each Wednesday night.

It’s a great opportunity for pop/rock/blues musicians to get up and play in a "band" situation with others.

It is a welcoming, well-organised evening hosted by Matt Saunders and landlord/musician Brodie.

If you’re a singer, guitarist, bassist, drummer, blues harpist, horn or brass player, just put your name on the list and you will get a turn. I had fun playing drums (my original instrument) on three tunes.

The India Electric Co are playing at Grayshott Folk Club on October 30. This indie pop/folk duo will be heading out on tour, supporting Midge Ure again in 2022.

After live sessions on BBC Radio 2 and 6 Music, Glastonbury Festival appearances and with BBC Introducing’s backing, they released The Gap in 2020 and are one of the truly pioneering acts in folk music.

Tickets cost £16 and are available from Des O’Byrne on 01428 607096.

Looking ahead, on November 5 and 6 The Inevitables are bringing their soulful show - a cross between The Commitments and the Blues Brothers - to the Victoria Halls, Hartley Wintney.

They are supporting no fewer than five charities with these shows, including Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care and MacMillan cancer support. Get tickets while you can as they will sell out! See www.ticketsource.co.uk/inevitables for details.

On Saturday, November 13, one of the hardest-working bands in the area, The Tr5’s - rockabilly and skiffle - have another dance hall gig, this time at Churt Village Hall. Support is from Straight Circles & DJ Stompin’ Steve and there will be a fully licensed bar. Tickets cost £8. Email [email protected] for details.

I don’t hear much from the Petersfield area so delighted to post that the full Petersfield Orchestra have a concert on Thursday, November 18 at St Peter’s Church in The Square in the town. More detail about this one next week.

Tickets are £18 and available at One Tree Books, Petersfield, by calling on 01730 261199, or from www.petersfieldorchestra.org.uk

Returning to this week, a reminder it’s Music At The Pottery (Farnham Pottery) tomorrow (Friday).

It is a great line-up including The Lost Trades, Tomorrow Bird, Mark Nelson Trio and Tom Gamble. Tickets are £15 (see www.thefarnhampottery.co.uk)

It’s also the first full Hart Male Voice Choir concert this Saturday at St Peter’s Church, Wrecclesham, since the pandemic. Tickets are £10 from 01252 716431.

Brian Player continues his Folk, Roots and Acoustic music show each Tuesday at 8pm on Wey Valley Radio based in Alton. It’s on 101.1FM or online at www.weyvalley.uk
