The Whitehill & Bordon Regeneration Company is seeking views on the next buildings to be developed, including a Morrisons food store, and entertainment and business space in the ‘Mess Hall.’
Plans for these buildings and their parking will be displayed on hoardings by The Shed.
The new Morrisons, described as a “strong anchor to the wider town centre development” will have a sales floorspace of 26,000 sq ft – roughly the same size as the town’s Tesco supermarket – as well as 177 car parking spaces, and create 120 jobs.
It is set to open Easter 2023.
The former army garrison’s attractive sergeants’ mess has been retained, and will now “form the focus of the town centre”, says the regeneration company.
Renamed the ‘Mess Hall’, it will house a range of bars and restaurants “from some of the best culinary talent in the UK”.
A central events space will also be used for comedy, dance, film and theatre, as well as for public events such as antiques and book fairs, and gaming.
The Mess Hall will also accommodate a children’s soft play, the new SiGNAL offices and the Woolmer Forest Heritage Society Museum.
It will be located opposite The Shed indoor marketplace and new town square and park, connected to the new Morrisons supermarket, more shops and offices, and three blocks of homes, by the new Guadeloupe Way footway.
Two of the blocks will be next to Bordon High Street, the other on Havannah Way, and will hold 177 one, two and three bedroom homes, from smaller starter units (available under rent to buy or shared ownership models), to larger rooftop/penthouse units for private sale.
All new homes will be single-level, sustainable, feature heating from renewable sources and have “excellent” levels of insulation with natural light, says the regeneration company.
The Health Hub will come in the next phase of the town centre.
