THE?village green in Medstead has been filled with the sights and sounds of summer fete fun on July.
The annual jamboree, on July 8, featured a range of stalls, games and fun events, beginning with an opening parade by the youngsters of the pre-school who surprised onlookers with a Bollywood-style dance.
More in keeping with the English tradition, the older children danced round the maypole before running off to enjoy the games, including the egg and spoon race and the Punch and Judy Show.
As always, the fete had plenty of interesting stalls, a popular beer tent and equally popular cream teas during the hot, sunny afternoon.
One of the highlights was the Alton and Petersfield Rock Choir, which drew a big audience, another was Zorbing, otherwise known as climbing into a giant ball and rolling down a hill. Also fun was the wet sponge throwing and attempting to climb a slippery pole.
Village organisations were well represented, including the art society and the parish council which had an information booth for visitors, while the Alton Model Club also had a lot of interested enthusiasts.
As always, the dog show run by Mary Farley was worth watching for the variety of dogs and the various classes, including best behaved and the waggliest tail. She had a hard job picking the winners but all the four-legged entrants got plenty of applause and extra pats from their owners.
Fete committee secretary Debbie Bickerdike said the day had been a great success.
“We always like to keep it a traditional summer fete and provide lots of things to enjoy and we are grateful to everyone who came and supported us,” she said.
“We raised around £3,000, which as always will got to local groups and good causes in the village.”
