SPILLS and thrills are guaranteed as Farnham’s first Soapbox Race cannons down Castle Street on Sunday, August 18 – all in aid of Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.
Thousands of cart-loving race fans are expected to line the 418 metre course later this summer – with Castle Street set to close to traffic from 5am to 9pm for the occasion.
Fifty places on the start-line went on sale for £150 each in October – and sold out in just two hours, raising £7,500 for the hospice in one fell swoop, with a further £504 raised by auctioning a place.
However, all is not lost for any brave souls still hoping to compete on August 18.
The Herald is delighted to announce that is has teamed up with the Farnham Soapbox Race committee to promote the inaugural event as ‘official media partners’.
And to celebrate the partnership, the Herald has been given one final race place to give away to a daredevil reader.
Fill out the coupon on Page 40 of this week’s Herald and return it to the address specified for your chance to test your home-made soapbox against the competition this August.
The event is also supported by principal sponsors ME estate agents and Yiayias at The Fox, as well as Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice itself.
Red Leaf Management, experienced in running successful soapbox races, have been brought in to handle the logistics – and Surrey County Council and the Safety Advisory Group have both given their consent.
See future editions of the Herald and farnhamsoapbox.co.uk, for further details of this year’s event.
