Shalden’s quintessentially English village fete returns to the beautiful grounds of Shalden Park House on Sunday at 2pm.

Its last fete in June 2019 – before the coronavirus pandemic cancelled it two years running – attracted more than 300 visitors and raised more than £4,000 for local charities.

The Shalden village fete is for the whole family. There will be stalls selling plants, cakes and books, plus a bottle tombola, an auction of promises and a raffle.

There will also be a dog show, putting and skittles competitions and a classic car display.

Visitors can enjoy a Pimm’s, grab a sausage from the barbecue and have a delicious tea in the garden.

Children will enjoy the toy stall, bouncy castle, plate smashing and teddy bear shy.

Michael Campbell, who with his wife Linda owns Shalden Park House and is hosting the fete, will add his vintage Bentley to the classic car display.

Fete committee member Ian Champness – pictured counting the number of teddy bears he expects will be won – said: “At the last fete more than 70 were won and the look on the kids’ faces when they knock one off the shy is just magical – and we make sure every child wins one!”

Shalden Park House will be well signposted throughout the village on the day. There will be plenty of parking available and the organisers are keeping their fingers crossed for nice weather.
