ALTON’S pink Zumbathon team have handed over a whopping £5,910.88 to charity following a successful event at Amery Hill School in April which attracted more than 200 dancers and 100 supporters.

The event provided three hours of Zumba with instructors Kate Sadler, Mandy Wilson, Karen Dixon, Alison Edwards, Samantha Bower and Dayana Sanchez, with a masterclass taught by Zumba jammer and professional dancer Sarah-Anne Pountney.

And the team were back at Amery Hill School to hand over £300 to support the provision of equipment for the school’s outdoor supported quad, with £5,610.88 going to Cancer Research UK.

On the back of this, the event’s main organisers, Kate Sadler and Mandy Wilson, were invited to the Cancer UK Research Centre in Southampton to see, first hand, how these funds are being spent.

Kate said: “It was quite an inspirational day, we were given an insight into the developments being made in cancer research, particularly in immunology. We met the scientists who are so appreciative of our fundraising and had a tour of the laboratory.

“We really got a sense that our fundraising is genuinely making a difference.

“Mandy and I are even more determined for next year!”

Next year’s Alton Zumbathon in aid of Cancer Research UK will be take place on Saturday, March 24, again at Amery Hill School.
