ALDERSHOT & FARNHAM 1, SOUTHAMPTON 0
PROMOTED Aldershot & Farnham Ladies consolidated their very respectable sixth place in the South Division 3B with a hard-fought win over Southampton.
It was chilly and wet at Heath End and A&F’s warm-up did not go well, inducing some yelling from coach Mark Robinson.
And when the game started, Aldershot found the ball in their court for much of the first half.
However, they shut down Southampton effectively and the visitors rarely made inroads into the home D, and when they did, A&F protected their feet and cleared the ball wide.
Both sides won short corners, but the deadlock remained at half-time.
Aldershot & Farnham changed tactics for the second half and transferred the ball around the back in much better style, looking to press down the flanks and get crosses into the D.
Southampton were also better in this half, but it was A&F who scored the all-important goal.
From the back, the ball travelled upfield through Sammy Powell and then Evie Kenna who dribbled around the keeper to finish into an empty goal.
Southampton came back strongly, but couldn’t break down A&F who defended as a unit to protect their slender lead.
The win puts A&F level on points with Tulse Hill & District, the team they visit this Saturday.
