ROMSEY 0, ALDERSHOT & FARNHAM 5
A&F faced an early start, fog and drizzle, and a very sandy pitch, but still put five goals past sixth-placed Romsey.
Coach Mark Robinson had his team well-prepared, but the first half was a mixed bag and the visitors had to be patient as they tried to plot a course through the packed midfield.
A&F stuck to their game-plan, though, and it paid off when Katrina Hellier put the final touch to a powerful strike into the D by Sara Nankivell who had latched onto a ball from Rosie Hudson.
This goal settled A&F nicely and they held their 1-0 lead at half-time.
Aldershot & Farnham played with more intensity in the second half and doubled their advantage when Evie Kenna drove round the keeper and converted from a tight angle – a beautiful goal.
An excellent short-corner routine produced the third, with the ball slipped out right and Nankivell pulling it back for Mel Sutherland to shoot home.
More fine play and composure from both forwards and midfield resulted in another goal for Kenna who lifted the ball expertly over the keeper and into the net.
With relentless running and constant pressure, Aldershot won another short corner and Sutherland’s unstoppable drag-flick gave them their fifth goal.
This was a superb team display by Aldershot & Farnham. Katrina Hellier, Rosie Hudson and Millie Wakefield stood out with their high work-rate, while Evie Kenna was voted player of the match.
