ALTON Squash Academy members Andy Butt and Tye Rath clashed in the final after making it through four rounds of the prestigious Excalibur Cup tournament at the Winchester Racquets and Fitness Centre.
The final turned into an epic five-set battle and Butt finally edged it 16-14 in the fifth.
ASA is fighting hard to get proper squash facilities included in the new Alton Sports Centre. They are being told that squash is a dying sport, which they strenuously deny.
It was certainly an accolade for the Academy to have two players dominating the Excalibur Cup, a national C Grade event.
Butt and Rath both compete regularly for Alton’s first and second teams. Alton Squash Academy has four teams in the Hampshire County Leagues and this Excalibur Cup triumph completes a highly successful season.
The players are now training hard for the start of the new season this month.
