A ONE-goal win was enough to move Alton Town up to fourth place in Division One of the Sydenhams Wessex League at Anstey Park on Saturday.

A flowing move down the right resulted in a dipping cross from Josh Levy and a flick from new signing Danny Turner into the path of Henry Fox who lashed a right-footed shot into the roof of the net on 18 minutes.

And so the scoring started and finished – but not for the lack of trying, with Danny Turner twice being denied by the visitors’ goalkeeper, Olli Graham going close from distance, and Hayes heading narrowly over.

Alton were less cohesive in the second half which enabled Hythe to see much more of the ball but, in the main, they restricted the Watersiders’ efforts to crosses from deep and corners which Brewers keeper Mo Nyamunga and their defensive unit handled well.

On Saturday, Alton Town host Bracknell in the preliminary round of the FA?Vase at Anstey Park (kick-off 3pm).
