VICTORY over Hampton Wick Royal on Saturday clinched a second successive promotion for Churt who will take their place in the Surrey Championship Division Three for the first time next season.

Churt have done it with two games to spare and if they win at Cobham Avorians this weekend, they will have won the title as well.

Put in at Bush Park after Toby Finneran, standing in for Dan Higgins, had called wrong, Churt lost Will Hucker with only 10 runs scored, but then made steady progress towards a 200-plus total.

Finneran and Jon?Palmer added 88 for the second wicket and the visitors were 113-3 when Finneran was caught for 45.

Churt then slipped to 148-6, but Rowley Marshall continued his outstanding season with a brisk 63 off 56 balls.

The tail chipped in usefully and the leaders closed on 224-9 from their 50 overs.

Oli Plaistowe, as usual, made an early breakthrough when Hampton replied, but opener Yasir Ahmed was in fine form and scored at a good tempo as Plaistowe and Robbie Chhabra picked up further wickets.

The spin of Ben Mitchell broke the back of the innings as Hampton went from 85-3 to 89-5. Ahmed and Ed Charlton added 58 for the sixth wicket, but the end was in sight when Ahmed was bowled by Marshall for 83.

Mitchell (4-40) and Dave Thomas cleaned up and Hampton?Wick were bowled out for 176 in the 46th over.

Churt will hope to be champions by the time they host Trinity Mid-Whitgiftian in their final game on September 2.
