HEADLEY Cricket Club are bidding for a cash boost from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative.
Tesco have teamed up with Groundwork to launch a community funding scheme, which sees grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – raised from carrier bag sales in Tesco stores – being awarded to help local projects.
Three groups in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive awards and shoppers are being invited to vote for who they think should take away the top grant.
One of the groups shortlisted is Headley CC whose project is to promote the development of youth cricket for boys and girls by the addition of professional coaches.
“It’s a very exciting initiative,” said Headley chairman Ashley Cook. “We have always made the development of youth cricket one of our highest priorities and this will be a massive boost for the future of the club.”
Voting is open in all Tesco stores throughout November and December. Customers can vote using a token given out at the check-out.
Tesco’s Bags of Help project has already delivered over £36 million to nearly 8,000 projects up and down the UK.
Customers get the chance to vote for three different groups every time they shop. Every other month, when votes are collected, the regional winners will be awarded grants.
Funding is available to groups and charities looking to fund projects that benefit communities. Applications can be made online at www.tesco.com/ bagsofhelp
