A streaker couldn't stop Alton’s fourth team earning their first win of the season, as they beat Wood Street Village’s second team by eight wickets in Division Five of the I’Anson League on Saturday.

The game was dominated by Alton’s rising stars. The Brewers took the field first and Kiran Varma (three for 23) used the new ball to great effect, quickly removing Jake West and Tom Williams.

Harry Lynn (one for eight) and Jorja Wright (one for 11) bowled tight spells, forcing the visitors to try to target the spin attack of Alex Stratford and Zak Rhodes. Only Archie Chudley made any real inroads, scoring 55 not out off 114 balls as the visitors scored 110 for nine off their 43 overs.

At the interval the Brewers were quietly confident of chasing down the target of 111.

That confidence evaporated after four balls of the second innings, with Steve Ball and Rohan Wills dismissed in the first over. Alton need not to have worried, though, as the under-15 pairing of Cameron Rhodes (57 not out) and Alex Housley (50 not out) both scored half-centuries and saw the Brewers home with a 111-run partnership.

Their concentration wasn’t even broken by the appearance of a streaker.
