BLACKHEATH II find themselves top of I’Anson Division Three, despite not playing on Saturday.

Dogmersfield II conceded the fixture and with Farncombe losing to Midhurst, in-form Blackheath lead the pack in the 12-team division which will not be decided until September 22.

Midhurst batted consistently rather than aggressively and a total of 189-9 looked well within range of the prolific Farncombe top order.

But Tim Powell made early inroads and Sean Kearney dismissed skipper Matt Jaggard for 24. Rob Doick and Tim Dixon then ripped through the batting and only Wes Pusey (49) stood firm. But he too fell to Kearney and Farncombe were bowled out for 114.

The Bourne lost ground with defeat to Bramley. Ali Holmes took 5-17 in nine excellent overs as The Bourne, invited to bat, stumbled to 98 all out.

The home side nearly made amends with the ball. Bramley made good progress through James Renny (31) and Henry Turner (36), but then ran into trouble against veteran Russ Mayhew who took 3-15 in his nine overs. Bramley eventually scrambled home with eight wickets down.

Hindhead moved further towards mid-table with an excellent bowling and fielding performance to beat bottom side Headley II. Bowling first, Hindhead kept things tight, conceding just nine runs from the first 10 overs. It took an excellent innings of 44 from the evergreen Ashley Cook, with good support from Ben Lucas and Craig Johnson, to take the visitors to 112-9 from the full 45 overs. All five bowlers did well, with Stuart Woods (3-13) and Will Hams (2-13) the pick of the bunch.

David Babb (22) and Joe Harrison (25) put on nearly 50 for Hindhead’s first wicket. However, first-change Mike Hughes (3-26) dismissed them both and, thereafter, Hindhead made hard work of things as Headley upped their game in the field.

Keenan Phipps’ direct throw accounted for Chris Fox and the visitors sensed a chance. But they didn’t have enough runs to play with and Darren Carter and Harry Stokes saw Hindhead home with four wickets and nine overs to spare. Alfie Trotman bowled a miserly spell of 1-5 off 4.2 overs late in the game.

Wood Street were put in at Shalford and looked well short of a winning total after being bowled out for 120. Liam Binfield made a good 35 and Naude (4-15 in 9 overs) and Bryan Winson recorded fine bowling figures.

But Shalford were left with red faces after being shot out for 40 in 14 overs. James Grist was the main destroyer with 6-23 in 6.4 overs and Jacob Slyfield claimed 3-12 in six. Matt Leighton ended the game with a wicket in his only over.

Thursley totalled 200 against Harting and then dismissed the visitors for 70. No details available.
