KEEP an eye out for the name Henry Amis – we could be hearing quite a bit about him on the cricket scene over the next few years...

The talented 13-year-old certainly underlined his potential when he played for Liphook & Ripsley’s second team.

With Covid-19 disrupting fixtures around the Hampshire League, Liphook arranged a 40-over friendly at Portchester.

Henry, who is a Hampshire county under-13 player, went in at number three for Liphook and smashed an unbeaten 123.

And he showed he’s no slouch with the ball, too, taking the final wicket of the day to wrap up a crushing 125-run victory.

Liphook, captained by Harry Munt, put on 234 runs for six wickets with Henry’s knock including 18 fours.

He played a composed and mature innings for his age, which saw him put on partnerships with six other batsmen – notably Richard Harvey (27), Sam Harvey (21) – father and son respectively – and Dylan Grimes (18).

There were good bowling performances by Portchester’s Derek Kelly and Doug Noyce, who each took two wickets.

Portchester battled to threaten the impressive total set by Liphook.

Doug Noyce followed his good bowling spell with 27 runs and Jack Girling made a gritty 16 in the middle order, and there was a final flourish by Nathan Lever who made 22 runs off nine balls.

However, Liphook’s bowlers proved to be too strong and Portchester were bowled out for 109 in the 36th over.

Liphook’s stand-out bowler was youth coach Steve Saycell, who took four wickets for 13 in eight overs.

There were also good performances by pace bowler Dylan Grimes, who took two wickets, leg-spinner Anthony White, who also took two wickets, and off-spinner Taskin Akash, who took one wicket for eight runs off eight overs.

Under-18 player Luke Anstey displayed his promising talent as an opening pace bowler.

And the final wicket to fall was taken by the batting star Henry to underline his all-rounder abilities.
