THE annual I’Anson Awards Dinner, again organised by Lashings Cricket Club, was held at Farnham Rugby Club last Friday.

The main guest was Chris Lewis, the former England and Surrey all-rounder, who reflected on his eventful career in front of an audience of 170 and presented the Player of the Season awards.

Tilford seamer Huw Town-Jones won the Jack Warner Cup for Division One Player of the Season. He took 44 wickets at an average of 11.23.

The other Player of the Season award winners were: Div II – Peter Unsworth (Shalford); Div III – Glenn Harrison (Peper Harow); Div IV – Tim Dixon (Midhurst); Div V – Cedric Cooray (Wrecclesham); Div VI – Dean Murphy (Kingsley).

The I’Anson Cup competition is in its 117th year and is probably the oldest continuously running league of its type in the world.

The most radical changes since the decision to relax the strict qualification rules were introduced last season, with limited-overs games being played for the first time, alternating with the traditional ‘time’ matches.

This year’s ADM will take place on Tuesday, November 7 at Headley Cricket Club and delegates will consider a number of proposals to amend the rules, following the changed playing format.

The switch to ten-team divisions, approved at the 2016 ADM, will be implemented next season.
