HINDHEAD have yet to register a point in I’Anson Division Two. They did well to capture six wickets, but a total of 88 was never likely to be enough to beat Grayshott II in Saturday’s local derby.

Mark Babb made the positive decision to bat first, but once again a series of rash shots led to Hindhead’s demise as they were shot out for a low total. ‘Extras’ was comfortably top scorer with 30 (24 wides), although Rob Gregory (4-24) and Neil Sampson (3-11) bowled well, ably backed up by the accurate Dom Ford, Andy Lang and Matt Jackson.

Jackson got Grayshott’s reply underway with a flurry of boundaries, but Matt Jeffs and Harry Stokes bowled good opening spells and when Lance Thorne (3-8 in 5 overs) induced some loose shots, Hindhead were in with a chance of bonus points. It was not to be and Jackson’s 42 ensured victory with nearly 20 overs to spare.

Hindhead showed good fight in the field and their six catches included a fine over-the-shoulder effort from David Babb to dismiss Jackson off Thorne.

Thursley, after two consecutive defeats, plundered 305 runs for the loss of only five wickets. But Tongham also made hay on a flat wicket at Poyle Road and got themselves in a winning position before Asif Bin Owais, who had already hit a half-century, turned the game by taking five wickets, leaving the home side all out for 264.

Aaron Smallbone (73), Owais (50) and Derek Agge (53 not out) led the run feast for Thursley, while openers Adam Farrier (81) and Liam Gadd (55) gave Tongham hope with their big opening partnership.

Fernhurst, at home to The Bourne, decided to bowl first on a track that had been freshened by a shower and Bruce Baxendale dismissed both openers cheaply. Nick Hales batted well for his 33, assisted by the middle order, before Ryan Lewis returned to pick up three quick wickets and finish with excellent figures of 3-6 in seven overs. Baxendale claimed the last wicket to end with 3-15 in 6.1 overs and a fine bowling performance all round left the visitors all out for 101 in the 38th over.

Fernhurst found it just as tough in reply, with Ed Garett and Andy Rooke giving absolutely nothing away. Three wickets fell cheaply to Garett and first-change Joe Morse before James Johnson and Lewis staged a vital stand of 65 to bring Fernhurst within touching distance. A mini collapse made it interesting, with Dave Du Gay snapping up two victims, but Lewis (40 not out) and Harry Lambert saw Fernhurst to a hard-earned victory in the 41st over. Between them, Rooke and Garett conceded only 20 runs in 18 overs.

Like Fernhurst, Brook have started the season with four straight wins, their latest victims being Elstead who opted to bat first and were dismissed for a modest 108 in 34 overs. Only Max Holland got going and he made 31 before falling to Joe Taylor who claimed 4-17 in seven overs. Neil Cooper made short work of the tail, taking 3-7 in 16 balls.

Max Holland took the only wicket to fall when Brook replied, but by that time Toby Pheasant (47) and Marc Antony-Eysele (47 not out) had put the game to bed.

Frensham II remain near the foot of the table after losing at home to Shalford. Put in to bat, Frensham relied on their more experienced players (Alex Warren 50, Martin Breddy 32) as they totalled a respectable 182.

But Shalford skipper Peter Unsworth played himself in and guided his side to a comfortable six-wicket win, with notable assistance from Kevin Rogers (47). The solid Unsworth finished 67 not out and Shalford won with 11 overs to spare.

Harting’s very youthful Archie Wadey took four good wickets against Badshot Lea and the home side were contained to 165-9 (Gregory 44, Tim Gray 34), with skipper Max Morris making an important 34 not out.

It proved enough to beat Harting. Simon Kyte held the Sussex team together with 54, but Rah Rocky delivered the knockout blow by taking 4-34. Harting were bowled out for 142.
